August, one of my favorite astrological months of the year, is packed with game-changing positivity. Yes! While not all rainbows, the month presents stellar opportunities for you to grow while cultivating both abundance and joy.
The month kicks off on the heels of a positive and upbeat New Moon. The New Moon that closed out July did so in a close conjunction to Venus, asking you to set intentions in alignment with your deepest values and desires. With Mercury no longer retrograde, now’s the time to claim your goals. If you missed the chance to set intentions on the 31st, it’s not too late. Start the month off with a stern focus and plans for this New Moon. Take time to claim your desires for this lunar cycle. Especially since Mercury has ended its second retrograde of the year–this is the perfect time to claim the lessons you just learned and visualize where you wish to go next. (Please keep in mind, though, that Mercury won’t clear its retrograde shadow until August 14th. Mercury in its retrograde shadow is a clean-up phase, which can continue to serve as a cycle of review.)
On top of this, August 1st, the cross-quarter day of Lammas adds to the abundant energy of the New Moon. Lammas marks the halfway point between the summer solstice and fall equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, Lammas punctuates the midway point of the opposite season. But regardless of where you are, these seasonal half-way points ask you to observe the growth you’ve experienced since the start of the new year. With harvest season beginning, take stock of all that’s sprouting in your life.
On August 2nd, Venus in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus. This fixed square invites you to claim your originality. Venus represents who and what you love, while Uranus encourages radical breakthrough. This uncomfortable clash asks you to own your authenticity. It pushes you to stand up for what you believe.
On August 3rd, Mercury, the planet of communication, which is in Cancer, squares Eris, the dwarf planet of discord, in Aries. This cardinal square further emphasizes yesterday’s energy. It asks you to own your authenticity. If you feel frustrated, allow yourself to express it.
On August 4th, Mars in Leo forms an inconjunct, or quincunx, to Pluto in Capricorn. This challenging configuration asks you to release something from your life. So consider this, what’s standing in your way? What do you need to surrender, release, or let go of as you step forward into your highest destiny?
As the first full week of the month begins on the 5th, wipe the slate clean. Focus on your most important business, life, and soul goals.
Speaking of stepping into your highest destiny, the waxing Quarter Moon in Scorpio happens on August 7th with the Sun in an ideal position to Jupiter. Yes! This fire trine ignites your passion. Even with Saturn in a challenging position to the Sun (a quincunx), which commands you to surrender something, the Sun in trine to Jupiter highlights one of the most favorable days of the year. Further, with the Sun and Venus traveling so close to one another, Venus also makes a trine to Jupiter. Empresses, this is a big, favorable deal. Use this time to ask for what you need, set intentions for what you want to call in, and go after your goals. Enjoy this period of positivity.

On August 11th, Jupiter awakens from its retrograde journey in Sagittarius. At the same time, Uranus stations retrograde in Taurus. Both of these transits offer another opportunity to take a look at the whirlwind 2019 has kicked up for us so far. How have your ambitions changed in ways you never expected at the start of this year? How have you changed? Jupiter stationing direct means that the pace picks back up when it comes to cultivating abundance. This is great for us entrepreneurs, so celebrate it. Uranus stationing retrograde invites us to decompress further and make sense of our Uranus in Taurus lessons. Consider this: What are you learning as it relates to working productively with the cycles of nature? How are you learning to care for your femininity? What do you need to acknowledge to nourish yourself and your family in the most meaningful ways?
On August 14th, the same day Mercury clears its retrograde pattern, the Sun and Venus make exact conjunction. This Venus-and-Sun alignment invites you to claim your dream. Like a New Moon, which happens when the Sun and the Moon align at the same degree, Venus and the Sun are aligning. Please do set an intention for your wish to grow over the next nine months (the next time the Sun and Venus will conjoin). On this most auspicious day, pay close attention to your thoughts, words, and actions. Align your mind with your desires. Set a strong intention. (This is an extraordinary moment to begin the process of manifesting a dream!)
One day later, on August 15th, the Full Moon in Aquarius occurs at 8:29 am Eastern at 22 degrees of Aquarius. Also known as the Sturgeon Full Moon, this potent lunar moment asks you to break from the societal norms and conditioning that holds you back from fully embracing all that you are! With Venus and the Sun perfectly aligned, it’s so important to listen to your heart. To support this, Mercury makes a healing trine to Chiron. You are evolving. Own it! Jupiter in Sagittarius, which just stationed direct, is in a wide separating trine to the Sun and Venus. This is an extremely positive placement and, coincidentally, a potent Full Moon. If you can, think back to the New Moon in Aquarius on February 18, 2018. What intentions did you set then that are coming to fruition now? Working with lunar cycles is often a long game. Intentions set then begin to ripen now. Embrace gratitude. You are evolving and growing in positive ways.
Come August 16th, Mercury which is now back in Leo, squares retrograde Uranus. This challenging mash-up of energy asks you to pay attention to your intuition. If the universe is orchestrating your life right now to teach you a lesson, what is it? Good or bad, easy or hard, tune in to the truth emerging right now and own it. Don’t dismiss the still quiet voice within. Your intuition may be subtle, but she’s incredibly smart. So tune in and hear her.
On August 18th, Mars leaves Leo and enters into Virgo, a sign it will travel in until October 4th. Mars in Virgo asks you to be goal-oriented, practical, and service-driven. While Mars in Virgo can bring out perfectionism, ultimately Mars in this sign supports taking a “nose to the grindstone” approach to business, which will support launching this next season.
Come the 21st, Venus follows Mars. It too leaves Leo and enters into Virgo, highlighting a deep need to be of service. Venus in Virgo encourages devotion, asking you to dig into your work and make progress now. Conjure your ideal client avatar and/or your mission for your work. Venus travels in Virgo until September 14th. Use these next few weeks to tend to the details. As the saying goes, make hay while the sun shines. Now’s the time to devote yourself to your work. You can, and will, get so much done.
And then, please do something special for yourself. This very same day, August 21st, Mercury in Leo trines Jupiter in Sagittarius. This optimistic and positive transit signifies good luck, good fortune, abundance, and growth. Think positively. When it comes to business, contracts signed now bode well. Close the deal. Say yes. Commit.
The Sun exits Leo and enters Virgo on August 23rd. Following Venus and Mars, the Sun now enters into one of the most devoted signs of the zodiac, Virgo. This transition fully heralds the entrance into harvest season. What are you cultivating? Virgo invites attention to detail and a return to routine. Get grounded and focused.
To expand this even more, on the 24th Venus and Mars conjoin in Aries. This perfect blend of masculine and feminine energies in this uber-practical sign (one day after the Sun also enters into Virgo) encourages detoxification. Nope, I am not talking about your body– unless you need to hit the reset button with a cleanse– I am talking about your life. Now’s the time to clear clutter and create space for the new crops you are cultivating. Forgive old grievances.
On the 26th, Venus in Virgo makes a perfect trine to Uranus in Taurus. This aspect encourages breakthrough, determination, and agility. It also helps you to own your authenticity and take a stand for your beliefs. This is the perfect time to revisit the mission of your business. Why are you doing what you are doing? Anchoring into your why remains essential, especially now.
Come the 28th, Mars follows Venus and also trines Uranus. Hello, breakthrough! Pay attention to out-of-the-blue opportunities. Accept invitations. Follow your intuition.
Then on the 29th, the Sun also trines Uranus– do you see a theme? This week is full of unexpected opportunities. I realize much of the world is on vacation this week, but if you are working, you can get so much done. And, if vacation calls, trust it’s going to be full of spontaneous adventures, breakthroughs, and discoveries. Stay open.
Also on the 29th, Mercury moves into Virgo, a sign it will travel in until September 14th. With Venus, Mars, Mercury, the Sun, and even the Moon all in the sign of the Virgin, take advantage of this service-driven energy. The Moon moves into Virgo at 7:47 pm Eastern, setting the stage for the New Moon in Virgo.
The New Moon in health-oriented Virgo happens on August 30th at 6:37 am Eastern at 6 degrees of Virgo. To reiterate what I wrote above, not only do the Sun and Moon align in Virgo, but so does Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Meanwhile, Uranus in Taurus perfectly trines the New Moon, too. This game-changing and highly favorable New Moon emphasizes growth. Set strong intentions this New Moon, primarily related to desired outcomes in both business and health. Stay mindful of perfectionism. With so much energy in Virgo, it’s easy to go overboard when it comes to meticulous routines. There’s no primary planetary emphasis in any air signs either. So, breathing and keeping a flexible mind remain paramount priorities.
